January 16, 2012 -- The Costa Concordia accident off Tuscany could inflict wider damage on the world cruise industry. The number of people taking cruises has soared from 500,000 in the early 1970s to an estimated 16 million last year. The cruise ship industry generated revenue of $24 billion in 2010.
