Jordan IT industry revenues reach $738m

Jordan's IT industry generated revenues of $738 million in 2011, up 1% from the year before, according to a survey conducted by the ICT Association of Jordan (int@j) and the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (MoICT).

The survey of companies in the IT and IT Enabled Services (ITES) industry sector showed slight improvement from 2010, despite the global and regional economic downturn.

Export revenue was up 14% year on year to $230.5 million, with Saudi Arabia accounting for 39% of export revenue, the USA 9%, the UAE 8.5% and Iraq 6%. High value-added IT activities generate around 90% of exports and around 35% of domestic revenues. Computer programming activities accounted for 56% of IT and ITES revenues.

 

Telecommunications Sector revenue for 2011 exceeded $1.67 billion. Accordingly the total Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Sector revenue for 2011 reached approximately $2.4 billion compared $2.35 billion in 2010.

Employment in IT and ITES grew to approximately 11,235 direct employees in IT and ITES, and reached 4,600 in Telecommunications.
