A10 Thunder Unified Application Service Gateways (UASGs)

A10 Networks is showcasing its A10 Thunder Unified Application Service Gateways (UASGs) to the Middle East at GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK. The Thunder appliances are designed to take the Application Delivery Controller (ADC) and Server Load Balancer (SLB) to the next level by consolidating multiple premium application services into an efficient 1 RU appliance, dramatically shrinking both capex and opex.

These application services encompass ADCs and Server Load Balancers, or Security modules such as DDoS Protection, Web Application Firewall (WAF), as well as next generation networking solutions such as Carrier Grade NAT (CGNAT), IPv6 migration solutions such as NAT64/DNS64, and SDN integration. "What this means for network operators  and large enterprises is that instead of having to have huge numbers of racks and equipment, they an consolidate down into very small rack space with very high throughput," says Glen Ogden, Regional Sales Director Middle East, A10 Networks. "On top of that we operate with completely no licence model so anybody that takes A10 technology gets all of the performance, all of the features, all of the functionality as is and when they need. That really drives down capex and it really drives down operational expense and opex one of those things since 2008 that people are looking to drive out of their business."

A10 wants to reduce opex

The Thunder series is also able to mitigate DDoS attacks,without any significant impact to the CPU performance, while still continuing doing load balancing and appication delivery.

One of the key claimed benefits of the Thunder series is the form factor. "You have a box that is 4.5 centimetres tall doing the equivalent of a box that would be 16U tall and if you try and collapse that across the data centres, you have a rack full of equipment that would normally be 15 to 20 racks, so it is a huge saving on Opex," says Tony Kenyon, Technical Director, EMEA & LATAM.
