Before I get started with the post, click the image below to check out the gallery of new iPhone 5 concept images I just ran across in a designer's portfolio (plus a few more of the best-looking ones I've seen from other designers thus far):

While it's not clear as to if the first five concepts in the gallery above are concepts for the actual end product or not, what is clear is that these concepts are just another in a long line of iPhone 5 concepts to hit the Internet as of late. Real or fabricated, the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 craze gives designers something to capitalize on: an opportunity to garner themselves a significant amount of attention by creating concepts/mock-ups of hot products that are rumored to be dropping sometime in the near future.
In a sense, it's a bit like trend-hijacking, but with more creativity — at least, where creating and rendering a design is concerned. If they create something bold and beautiful enough, there's a pretty good chance it's going to get picked up by a number of influential Web sites. And lucky for designers, if they create something that's less-than-appealing, it will most likely simply go unnoticed rather than suffer any consequences, but stranger things have happened.
Some of what we see in the gallery above is some rather stellar design work, but what happens when someone takes it to the next level and creates a video complete with feature demonstrations? More than 23 million hits so far in the case below. Hello, opportunity:
So, how does this relate to you? Put simply, the takeaway here is to find hot products that are being talked about in your market and then find ways to use the rumor mill and craze over said products to your advantage. Capitalize on trends and do something to make yourself stand out amongst the crowd.
Most of the time, it's a long shot, but if you play your cards right, you may just land yourself a rather significant number of eyeballs on your work/company — which could equate to more sales/business for you, both in the short term and long term. Just don't be spammy about it. Contribute something of value to the discussion taking place, and people will be there to absorb it, process it, and pass it along.
