From Left to Right-(sitting) Evan Kaplan, iPass CEO, Hisham Akbar, Zain Group CCO (standing) Steve Livingston, iPass Senior Vice President, Jawdat Daj Kuwait's Zain Group is set to offers its customers a global WiFi roaming service with 700,000 WiFi hotspots after signing an agreement with iPass Inc, an enterprise mobility specialist.
Zain will use the iPass Open Mobile Exchange to give its customers access to the iPass Mobile Network, the world's largest commercial Wi-Fi network at local rates.
The network has 700,000 hotspots covering 117 countries in locations such as airports, hotels, convention centres and coffee shops.
"Our customers will be able to use their smartphones and tablets to affordably data roam on Wi-Fi in over 700,000 locations internationally with the convenience of being charged on their home bill. It's a value added service that our mobile customers have desired in order to avert high data roaming charges," said Hisham Akbar, group chief commercial officer, Zain Group.
Steve Livingston, senior vice president of carrier development, iPass, added that Zain's global Wi-Fi roaming service would help drive customer loyalty.
Zain also announced this week that it had appointed Fraser Curley as its CEO for Saudi Arabia.
