Retail complex developer iMall has come to GITEX TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2014 to spread word of the upcoming opening of its brick-and-mortar tech-themed shopping centre.
"We wanted to get a new concept into this market," says Mounir Lutfy, director, Bustan Group, proprietor of iMall. "We wanted to bring all the IT businesses under one umbrella. If you want to get a phone, if you want to get a laptop, anything to do with IT, you can visit one destination and find everything there."
The third floor of the mall is under construction on Al Ittihad Road, the main thoroughfare that connects the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah. Lutfy is hopeful for a May 2015 launch and confident that the project's presence at GITEX will garner further interest. The location, he believes, will help bring in business.
"We got some reports estimating the commuters on [Al Ittihad Road] at 750,000 to a million per day," he says. "This is very good exposure for all the businesses that are going to open with us."
Lutfy said iMall already has an anchor tenant lined up, but could not yet reveal who it is.
"When you go to a mall like that, you need an anchor tenant, whether it's a big bank, a supermarket, a Jumbo or a Sharaf DG," he explains. "That tenant will already have a name in the market and will bring the initial footfall."
He expects other tenants to be attracted to the value-add that iMall is bringing to market.
