India has emerged as the world's top source of junk mail

(FILES) In this file photo taken on November 27, 2010, an Indian worker uses a laptop as he uploads e-books and synchronises with the attached Kindle-style tablet called Wink at the EC Media International Private Limited office in Bangalore. India has emerged as the world's top source of junk mail as spammers make use of lax laws and absent enforcement to turn the country into a centre of unsolicited email. Kaspersky Lab, a Moscow-based global Internet security firm, says in a recent report that more spam was sent from the south Asian giant than anywhere else in the world in the third quarter of the year.
